A test portion is heated to 200 degrees centigrade under a high vacuum in a closed measuring apparatus thus ensuring the complete evaporation of water. The resulting pressure increase, to which the water content is proportional, is measured. The method is applicable for the determination of water contents in the range of 0,002 to 0,05 % (m/m). The method is not applicable to poly(alkylene terephthalate) samples containing volatile compoundsother than water in significant amounts.
