The document is chiefly intended to cover the technical provisions for guiding the purchase of the seedlac, but does not include all the necessary provisions of a contract. For matter insoluble in hot alcohol, two limits are prescribed in line with tradepractice: a basic limit and a relaxed limit. The limits specified are limits for rejection. Five grades of seedlac are specified. The methods of test are the determination of matter insoluble in hot alcohol, the determination of volatile matter (moisture), the determination of colour index and of matter soluble in water and the determination of wax content.
