The method is applicable to products having Ca contents greater than or equal to 0,01 % (m/m). Bases on alkaline fusion of a test portion with a mixture of sodium carbonate and boric acid, and dissolution of the fused mass in water. Precipitationof the calcium, in alkaline medium in the presence of potassium cyanide, using a measured excess of naphthalhydroxamic acid (C10H6(CO)2NOH) solution, and filtration of the precipitate. Spectrophotometric measurement of the excess naphthalhydroxamid acid at a wavelength of about 400 nm. The addition of potassium cyanide is intended to prevent interference by copper. Cancels and replaces ISO Recommendation R 2070-1971.
