Establishing of a codesystem of designation for polyethylene (PE) and ethylene copolymer compounds. The designation system is based on a standardized pattern of data blocks. It consists of a description block, an identity block comprising the International Standard number and an individual item block. Which is sudivided into four data blocks with coded information: No.1: Identifidation of the polyethylene by its symbol (PE); No.2:Position 1: Intended application or method of processing; Position 2 to 4: Important properties, additives or indications; No.3: Designatory properties (coded property levels); No.4: Fillers or reinforcing materials and their content; Lists of codes used in the data blocks are given. Designatory properties of polyethylene are conventional density and melt flow rate. Examples of coded designations are given.
