Specifies two methods. The titrimetric method consists in disolving of a test portion in a mixed solvent, followed by titration of the free fatty acids present with ethanolic potassium hydroxide solution. It is most suitable for products which are not strongly coloured. The potentiometric method consists in potentiometric titrating in a test portion with an isopropanolic potassium hydroxide solution in a non-aqueous medium. The methodsare not applicable to waxes.
