As the reference wavelengths used for characterizing optical glasses differ from country to country, direct comparisons are not possible. The specifications reduce the difficulties eccountered so far and facilitate the evaluation of technical data on optical glasses and devices. Two reference wavelengths are specified for the characterization of optical glasses, systems and instruments.Defined are also associated principal refractive indices and dispersions as well as Abbe numbers related to the reference wavelengths and principal dispersions.
