Defines characteristic of tobacco products that is a very widespread and important criterion both for product quality specifications and for analytical determinations by mechanical smoking. As to be definitions to be adopted and the conditions that allow comparabledeterminations of this characteritic to be made, a broad consensus could be obtained although it has so far been impossible to standardize the complete description of the equipment to be used and the detailed procedure. Various technical comments included in the annex are intended to help the users to fully understand this standard.
