The purpose of this Guide is to provide a basic introduction to concepts and practical aspects related to the certification of reference materials. The use of reference materials is considered in ISO Guide 33. ThisGuide is intended to assist in understanding valid methods for the certification of reference materials and to help potential users to better define their technical requirements. The clauses deal with the role of reference materials in measurement science, measurement uncertainty, homogeneity of materials, general principles of certification, certification by a definitive method, by interlaboratory testing and based on a metrological approach.
