Refines the Basic Reference Model for OSI to provide a framework for co-ordinating the development of existing and future Application Layer standards. Is provided for reference by Application Layer standards. defines: a) nature of standards in Application Layer and relationship among them; b) the architectural framework for the development of OSI Application Layer protocols; c) thecategories of identifiable objects neededed for the specification and operation of protocols.
