Describes suitable devices and procedures. Measures the penetration of a specified indentor forced into the material under specified conditions. Indentation hardness is inversely related to the penetration and is dependent on the elastic modulus and viscoelastic behaviour of the material. The shape of indentor and force applied influence the results. Relationship between results obtained and various durometers or other instruments isnot necessarily simple.
