The variety of ways in which different manufacturers produce carbides with differing characteristics makes it impossible to standardize carbides graded in accordance with these characteristics. ISO 513 is there fore limited to a classification of carbides based on their application. Does not apply to mining and other percussion tools, wire drawing dies, and tools operating by deformation of the metal etc.
