Specifies a titrimetric method for the determination of the iodine adsorption number, IAN, of carbon black for use in the rubber industry. It is related to the surface area of carbon black. However, it is significantly depressed in the presence of a high content of volatile or solvent extractable matters; the IAN therefore should not be considered as providing a measure of the specific surface area of carbon black. It is expressed in milligrams of iodine per gramof carbon black using an equation.
