Specifies two methods of determining the melting point of polyamides. Method A uses a capillary tube, which contains a small sample of the polyamide under test. The tube is placed into a heating block with thermometer and the behaviour of the test sample is observed while the temperature is increased at a constant rate. Method B uses aheating block with a plane surface. A small polyamide particle is placed between the heated surface and a thin covering glass plate carried by the polyamide particle immersed in a drop of silicone oil. The melting point is reached, when the meniscus of the oil drop moves.
